Canadian Trademark Agent Services

Outsource the overwhelm of managing your clients’ trademarks to our team of Canadian trademark law and registration experts and give your clients the best trademark protection available.

We have the systems, processes, and professionals to manage portfolios of trademarks ranging from only one or two to several hundred, and we share this expertise with other legal professionals in Canada and across the globe.

In a world where ideas are assets, every business needs a strong team of experts to protect their most valuable ones – their trademarks. But not every law firm has legal professionals with the knowledge and qualifications to provide this service. Trademark protection is a very specialized field in Canada, and only registered Canadian Trademark Agents are authorized to communicate with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) on behalf of a trademark owner.

We are a specialty Canadian law firm that focuses exclusively on trademark protection. It’s all we do, and it’s what we love. Our professionals include Canadian lawyers, trademark agents and administrators, and we have over 40-years of combined experience working with businesses and their legal advisors to protect trademarks in Canada.

Above all, we value excellent service, optimum results and transparent pricing. Our flat-fee pricing model enables fast and accurate budgeting for Canadian trademark protection services including:

  • Trademark searches and availability opinions
  • Trademark registrations
  • Trademark renewals

We also provide flat-fee pricing on services for Madrid Protocol trademark applications with Canadian designations, which require the appointment of a registered Canadian Trademark Agent. CIPO will not communicate directly with international legal representatives, and so appointing our firm as the registered Canadian Trademark Agent will ensure that official CIPO correspondence is properly conveyed, diarized and actioned.

We love our clients and they love us too. Hear what a few of them had to say about us recently.

Cynthia provided clear, encouraging and empowering advice when I was navigating the trademark process for my small business. She was available quickly and it didn’t stress her out that I was up against tight deadlines. It has been a pleasure working with Cynthia. I’m grateful to have her as my go to IP expert!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a trademark agent?

A trademark agent is a professional, usually a lawyer, who is qualified by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office to advise and act on behalf of business owners in trademark matters. A trademark agent has a minimum of two years of experience in registering trademarks and has passed a qualifying exam. Many lawyers and other professionals will offer advise you on trademark protection, but only a registered Canadian trademark agent is authorized to file your trademark application and deal with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office on your behalf. A list of registered Canadian trademark agents can be found here.

Should I retain a lawyer to complete the Canadian trademark search?

The Canadian Intellectual Property Office’s trademarks database is publicly available for anyone to search, but a trademark lawyer or agent will add experience and insight to reading the results. A trademark lawyer can advise you on whether there are any earlier trademarks that you could be infringing, and this knowledge can save you from wasting your time and money into a trademark that is not available for your use.

Should I retain a lawyer to trademark a name?

Yes! A trademark lawyer or agent will help you in so many ways. They will advise you on whether you can trademark the name, and they can ensure that your trademark application meets all the legal requirements under the law. Hiring a trademark lawyer will help you to avoid objections and delays throughout the trademark process.
